Artist Statement

As a mixed media artist, I find inspiration across a multitude of mediums.  I draw insight from politics, my Mexican and Guamanian cultures, and digital technologies.  Within this realm of mediums and inspirations, my works vary from blatantly representational to abstractly symbolic, and I am continuously moving along the continuum between the two. As of late, I’ve enjoyed creating works in series, either in reference to the materials I utilize, the color palettes I stick to, or the subjects that I create and/or depict.

Studying in the Digital Media Art program at SJSU has helped me develop a new appreciation for digital arts and the processes in which they are created.  Utilizing my previous skills and techniques in art, I aim to mimic traditional art styles with new digital technologies.  My recent pieces stray away from stereotypical, cartoon style digital imagery and instead digitizes realistic images and subject portrayals.
